“President Obama will meet with pro-immigration reform [amnesty] Democrats — Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) and Reps. Nydia Velasquez (D-N.Y.) and Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) — this afternoon to discuss immigration plans for the lame-duck session. The meeting will be a follow-up to a September meeting with the three Democrats, where Obama pledged support for comprehensive immigration reform and the DREAM Act. That time, they were hoping for the White House’s support to push senators to vote for the DREAM Act as part the defense authorization bill — an effort that failed when Republicans filibustered the bill,” the Washington Independent says.
“Democratic Hispanic legislators oppose separating [H-1b professional guestworker visa increases from amnesty] for fear of losing business support for comprehensive reform. In principle, then, a Republican takeover of the House might increase the likelihood of a stand-alone bill on skilled immigration. That, however, is not the Republicans’ priority. Lamar Smith, the Republican who would probably become chairman of the House judiciary committee, is more focused on deporting illegal immigrants and strengthening the border,” says the Economist.

During an interview with a Boston TV station, Obama’s Aunt Zeituni said: “If I come as an immigrant, you have the obligation to make me a citizen.” And when the interviewer questioned her about coming here illegally and receiving taxpayer-funded benefits, she said: “I did not take advantage of the system, the system took advantage of me.” Watch FAIR President Dan Stein discuss the constant abuse of our asylum system above.
Republican Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee are beginning to ask questions about the Houston Amnesty Program we told you about last week in which hundreds of immigration cases were dismissed. The Houston Chronicle is reporting that last Thursday the seven Members of the Committee called for an investigation into the dismissals.
If Education is the Key to Economic Success, Why Does Obama Insist on Importing Millions of Uneducated People?
On a campaign swing through New Mexico today, President Obama returned to a theme that he hopes will energize voters in the midterm elections. The president, as he has done in the past, spoke about the need for an educated workforce to ensure America’s long-term economic prosperity. Even his harshest critics would not disagree. Just one question Mr. President: If America needs an educated and skilled labor force to maintain our economic position in the world, why do we maintain an immigration policy that brings millions of poorly educated workers to our country every year? Why do you insist that we make citizens out of millions more poorly educated and poorly skilled people who have come to our country illegally? According to a new report, released today by the Brookings Institution, some 30 percent of immigrants who have arrived in the United States since 1980 have less than a high school education, while another 25 percent have not advanced beyond high school. Among illegal aliens - millions of people President Obama wants to legalize - educational attainment is even lower. If large numbers of poorly educated workers are a drag on our economy, wouldn’t it be logical to stop adding to the problem?
Bombshell DHS Memo Reveals Plan to Grant Administrative Amnesty to Entire Illegal Alien Population
The American Spectator reported last Thursday that a new leaked memo from the Department of Homeland Security clearly demonstrates the Obama Administration has been contemplating using its administrative power to grant amnesty to the entire illegal alien population. FAIR has since obtained a copy of the memo, dated February 26, 2010, and is able to confirm its contents.

USA Today reports, “The Obama administration is changing the federal immigration enforcement strategy in ways that reduce the threat of deportation for millions of illegal immigrants, even as states such as Arizona, Colorado, Virginia, Ohio and Texas are pushing to accelerate deportations.”
“The administration’s new direction puts it at odds with those who believe the nation’s immigration laws should be strictly enforced and that all illegal immigrants should be deported. ICE is “thumbing its nose at the law,” said Rep. Steve King of Iowa, the top Republican on the House immigration subcommittee.
Is the Obama Administration giving de-facto amnesty to thousands of illegal aliens by dismissing their immigration cases in court? The Houston Chronicle reports that many defense attorneys have shown up to immigration court recently prepared to defend their cleints only to find that their cases have been dismissed. The illegal aliens whose cases have been dismissed are not granted citizenship, but their cases are dropped and they are allowed to remain in the US.
“The Obama administration said it would focus its enforcement of illegal immigration laws by targeting workplace activities, but a recent report shows that while audits of employers are slightly up over the Bush administration, worker arrests are down drastically since the end of 2008,” notes Fox News.
“[Fomer ICE Director Julie] Myers said while she agrees with the Obama administration’s approach of targeting employers, ‘when I was at ICE, we didn’t think we could ignore the aliens we encountered. It is tough when you have law enforcement turning a blind eye to entire categories of aliens — and that is what is happening here — it is a de facto amnesty,’ she said.”
